Understanding Altitude Sickness
Altitude sickness (AMS) can affect anyone above 2,500m regardless of fitness level.
Symptoms
Headache, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, loss of appetite, and difficulty sleeping.
Prevention
Ascend slowly, stay hydrated, avoid alcohol, eat carbohydrates, and consider Diamox.
Treatment
Rest, hydrate, and descend if symptoms worsen. Severe cases need immediate descent and medical attention.
Acclimatization Schedule
Follow the golden rule: climb high, sleep low. Take rest days every 3-4 days.
